W6TRW Swap Meet Temporarily Suspended

The W6TRW Amateur Radio Club has temporarily suspended the W6TRW Swap Meet and VE Test Sessions until further notice.

JUNE AND JULY SWAP MEETS ARE CANCELLED

POSSIBLE REOPENING  IN AUGUST

This action is being taken to reduce the rate of infection from COVID-19 (coronavirus).

We will resume Swap Meets on the last Saturday of the month as soon as we are allowed to do so. As of now, we are looking at a possible reopening in August, but that is not guaranteed.

Please understand that the decision to reopen the Swap Meet is not solely up to the W6TRW Amateur Radio Club. There are many groups that have to come together and agree that reopening the Swap Meet is the right thing to do. We are coordinating with the company (which has the most liability and is being very cautious — as it should be) as well as the City of Redondo Beach and county, state, and federal health officials. We ask for your patience as we work with various entities to get us going again.

When we do reopen, sellers will have their current permits extended month-for-month to account for the suspension. Masks covering the nose and mouth will be required to be worn, social distancing, and other safety-related rules will be enforced.

Although we all want to get back to “normal” and “business as usual,” the safety and well-being of our volunteer staff, our sellers, and our guests is our number one priority. Our Swap Meet attracts a large number of at-risk individuals given the average age and health of ham radio operators (the core of our attendees). Although it is important to you and me, our Amateur Radio Swap Meet is not an essential or low-risk event. We need to err on the side of caution. While we see businesses and other swap meets slowly reopening, we do not yet have permission to do so. Be assured that we are working to get those approvals as quickly as possible.

We are as frustrated as you that we have not been able to hold the Swap Meet since February. This is an unprecedented time in our country, and we must do our part, regardless of how difficult, to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.

Please continue to check this website: https://w6trw.com/ for updates on future events. Announcements will also be made on our social media platforms @w6trwswapmeet on Twitter and W6TRW Swap Meet on Facebook.
